Question

  • Where is the data held in the Govt.nz app and digital wallet stored, and is any of that data stored or processed offshore?

Answered by

Hon Paul Goldsmith

List MP · National Party · Minister for the Public Service and Digitising Government

Answer

I am advised that the digital wallet included with the govt.nz app is stored securely on the user's device. When a user claims a credential, it is added to the user’s wallet on their phone. Emergency management alert information is stored on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) platform in Sydney, Australia. Content related to the services section of the app is stored in a content management system developed by Silverstripe and stored on the AWS platform in Sydney, Australia. The govt.nz app pulls information from this source regularly to keep the content on the app up to date.
