  • Further to Written Question 30232 (2026), what safeguards, if any, are in place to ensure that the housing services reduction target does not discourage staff from approving Emergency Housing Special Needs Grants or other housing assistance for eligible clients?

Answer

I am advised that Ministry of Social Development frontline staff are expected to assess each client's circumstances and provide the support that person is eligible to receive under the relevant legislation and policy settings. Where a person is eligible for emergency housing assistance, and more suitable accommodation cannot be accessed, that assistance is granted.
