Question

  • What companies, if any, have sought Government assistance in relation to the Emissions Trading Scheme compliance costs during this Parliamentary term?

Answered by

Hon Nicola Willis

List MP · National Party · Minister for Economic Growth

Answer

Several firms, such as Fletcher Building, Ballance, NZ Steel and Whakatane Mill have raised unique concerns regarding ETS industrial allocation settings, including that ETS industrial allocation settings may discourage their investments in emissions reductions, which would help firms manage their future ETS costs. The Government is addressing the disincentive issue in the recently introduced Climate Change Response Amendment Bill.
