Answer

Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities advises me that before a property is made available for sale, a range of activities including necessary repairs, valuation, marketing the property and potentially rehousing other tenants in a block or complex of homes must be completed to ensure the property is suitable for disposal and to achieve value for money for taxpayers. As a result, the period between a property becoming vacant and being sold can vary considerably depending on the circumstances of each property. Right of first refusal negotiations may also need to be completed. 222 homes were vacant between 90 and 180 days, 85 homes were vacant between 181 and 270 days and 20 were vacant for more than 271 days before being sold.
