Answer

Following the NZTA Board's endorsement of the Te Hana to Whangarei investment case in August 2025, funding of $187 million was approved to progress consenting, route protection and some design with priority given for an alternative to the Brynderwyn Hills (section 2B). As has been widely publicised the National Land Transport Programme (NLTP) is already oversubscribed, hence NZTA is taking a prudent financial approach through its programming approach. Following the MTPP announcement on 9 July 2026, funding allocations across the RoNS programme are under review and will be subject to change in the coming months. It is not anticipated that there will be any spend on Te Hana to Whangarei section of the Northland Corridor beyond route protection, except for the Brynderwyns corridor which is completing some design work.
