  • What funding, if any, is allocated to the East-West Link for activity beyond route protection in the 2024–27 National Land Transport Programme?

Answer

Following the NZTA Board's endorsement of the East-West Link investment case in August 2025, funding of $102 million was approved to progress consenting, route protection and some design. As has been widely publicised the National Land Transport Programme (NLTP) is already oversubscribed, hence NZTA is taking a prudent financial approach through its programming approach. Following the MTPP announcement on 9 July 2026, funding allocations across the RoNS programme are under review and will be subject to change in the coming months. It is not anticipated that there will be any spend on East-West Link beyond route protection in the 2024–27 NLTP period.
