Answer
The Tertiary Education Commission’s Annual Report for the year to 30 June 2024 reported total remuneration (fees) for its Board of Commissioners of $211,601 (page 144). I was the responsible Minister for Education New Zealand (ENZ) for part of 2023/24 and part of 2024/25. ENZ’s Annual Report for the year to 30 June 2024 reported total remuneration (fees) for its Board of $121,000 (page 93, rounded to nearest thousand). In accordance with clause 17 of Schedule 11 of the Education and Training Act 2020, I set the maximum fees payable to the governing councils of tertiary education institutions (TEIs). The actual fee levels are then determined by the individual councils up to this maximum level. I set the actual fees paid to the New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology Council and the former Workforce Development Councils. The fees paid in the 2023-24 financial year were paid from within each organisation’s baseline and the total remuneration for the 2023-24 financial year is published in each organisation’s annual report.
