Question

  • Has the team tasked with developing New Zealand Police's Digital Notebook identified any risks or unintended consequences relating to its development, if so, what are they?

Answered by

Hon Mark Mitchell

Member for Whangaparāoa · National Party · Minister of Police

Answer

I am advised that Police conducted a Privacy Impact Assessment of Digital Notebook in January 2023, which identified potential risks at the time including the availability, visibility, transparency, retention, destruction and disposal of data, improper sharing of information, public perception of an officer’s use of devices, loss of data, and security of data. These risks, including emerging risks, such as retention of photographs, continue to be monitored and addressed as the product evolves.
