Is the Minister, or any member of the Minister's office, aware of the number of permanent residents from the Pacific Islands are living in New Zealand and if so, what are those numbers, broken down by Pacific Island nation and date?

Answer

I am aware that Stats NZ estimated the resident population of Pacific peoples in New Zealand at 464,200 as at 30 June 2023, based on the most recent census data. This estimate uses Stats NZ's estimated resident population methodology and includes people who identify with one or more Pacific ethnic groups. I am advised that neither the Ministry of Pacific Peoples or Stats NZ do not hold information on the number of permanent residents from Pacific Island nations living in New Zealand, including a breakdown by Pacific Island nation and date.
