Question

  • What risk reduction appraisals, if any, have been done relating to the hazardous nature of storing and processing cryogenic liquids for the proposed LNG terminal?

Answered by

Hon Simeon Brown

Answer

I have been advised that while some indicative risk appraisals have been carried out by proponents, the operator of the LNG import facility will be required to prepare a Safety Case under the Health and Safety at Work Act regulations. This will require the operator to, among other things, eliminate and minimise risk as far as is reasonably practicable. The operator must not operate the facility unless its Safety Case has been accepted by WorkSafe.
