Question

  • Will the Minister commit to ordering an independent review of NZTA's stakeholder engagement practices on the SH1 Wellington Improvements Project, and if not, why not?

Answered by

Hon Chris Bishop

Member for Hutt South · National Party · Minister of Transport

Answer

No, I do not consider an independent review is required. I have no concerns with NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA)'s stakeholder engagement practices, and I am advised NZTA is acting in line with its established engagement approach, which focuses on engaging with key partners and stakeholders to inform the current phase of the project. NZTA has been, and continues to be, in ongoing dialogue with mana whenua partners, council stakeholders (including Wellington City Council and Greater Wellington Regional Council), affected property owners, and a range of other stakeholders during the current pre-implementation phase.
