Question

  • Was demand for foundational education at New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology in 2025 greater than the amount of funding available?

Answered by

Hon Penny Simmonds

Member for Invercargill · National Party · Minister for Tertiary Education

Answer

I am advised that New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology (NZIST) had demand for Level 1-2 funded programmes that was greater than the funding initially provided by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) in 2025. During the year, NZIST requested additional Level 1 and 2 funding to support this demand. TEC provided an additional $4 million to NZIST via the Significant Investment Plan Amendment process to meet this demand.
