Answer

A $157.4 million contingency was set up in Budget 2024 to support the disestablishment of Te Pūkenga and the transition to a new vocational education and training network. To date $56.1 million has been appropriated and $24.9 million has been paid. The $24.9 million that has been paid is comprised of the following: - $10.0 million to Eastern Institute of Technology to support the rebuild and recovery from Cyclone Gabrielle. - $6.0 million to Otago Polytechnic to support the repayment of its Crown loan. - $4.5 million to NorthTec to resolve property issues and support property consolidation. - $2.4 million to the Southern Institute of Technology to address deferred maintenance at its Telford campus. - $2.0 million to NZIST to support the transition of Tai Poutini Polytechnic operations to the Open Polytechnic of New Zealand.
