Question

  • How many people experiencing homelessness does the Government estimate the additional $14.54 million for support services announced on 17 June 2026 will assist over the next year?

Hon Chris Bishop

Answer

While it is difficult to estimate the number of people experiencing homelessness who will be supported by this additional investment, the locally led short-term actions announced late last year have made a difference. For example, between November 2025 and January 2026, 177 people entered a new transitional housing pilot programme in Auckland and Hamilton, and housing assistance centres delivered more than 1,500 support activities.
