How does the Government intend to address the gap between the 3,630 households that providers report being in the Housing First programme and the 2,735 places funded by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, as recorded in the Homelessness Insights report to 31 March 2026?

Answer

I am advised that Housing First operates through establishing connections with households who are usually disengaged with Government funded and other support services and who have been long term homeless, so there will always be households taken into the programme by providers who are not yet housed. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development works with Housing First providers to identify housing solutions for those households (which may be transitional housing or supports other than social housing), which can be challenging in some housing markets.
