How many of the 5,141 children recorded in the Homelessness Insights report to 31 March 2026 as being in transitional housing had been in transitional housing for more than 12 months?

Hon Chris Bishop
Member for Hutt South · National Party · Minister of Housing
Answer
Of the 5,141 children recorded as in service in transitional housing as at the end of Mar-26, 1,193 had been in households that had been in the service for more than 12 months. I am advised that the composition of a household is captured when the household is first referred to transitional housing, and that the composition of the household may change over time without being captured in the reporting. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development works closely with transitional housing providers to facilitate placement of long stay households (especially those with children) into suitable long-term accommodation.
