Answer

It is not possible to isolate total expenditure to date for the 300 additional social housing places, as provider invoices are not itemised at the individual property level. As at 17 June 2026, 288 of the 300 social housing places had been delivered, of which 283 were tenanted. The average market rent across these places is $602 per week, with an average tenant contribution (Income-Related Rent) of $125 per week. This results in an average Income-Related Rent Subsidy of $477 per week per place. In addition, providers receive a Tenancy and Property Management Overhead payment of $223 per week. Extrapolating these costs across the full 300 places results in a forecast ongoing annual cost of approximately $10.9 million.
