Answer

Ministry of Defence payments to contractors previously employed at the Ministry: March 2026 -$730 April 2026 - $14,780 May 2026 - $30,689 Of 335 contractors engaged by the New Zealand Defence Force in FY 2025/26, none were permanent employees in the previous two financial years before becoming contractors. This has been the case for the last two financial years, with approximately only 1.5% of contractors being previously employed since FY 2022/23. The expectation is for such low numbers to continue in FY 2026/27.
