Answer
I am advised that the Ministry of Justice (the Ministry) records whether a contractor has been employed by the Ministry within the 24 months prior to their contract commencing. The Ministry does not record this information for consultants. The Ministry reports its contractor expenditure quarterly. I am advised that from 1 January 2024 to 31 March 2026 the Ministry spent $413,516 on 7 contractor engagements, where contractors were previously employed by the Ministry within 24 months of their contract commencing. A breakdown by financial year is provided in Table 1 attached, as the most accurate representation of the available data. Regarding Crown entities, I am advised that the total sum spent on wages for any contractors and consultants who have been previously employed in a different capacity is $32,520 for the Human Rights Commission, $160,575 for the Independent Police Conduct Authority and $345,153 for the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
