Answer

Through Budget 2024, the Ministry of Education undertook an initial baseline exercise, resulting in a $67.8 million reduction to Vote Education’s 2024/25 baseline. Where other savings have been identified, these are reprioritised to other education priorities. I am advised that, as at 5 June 2026, Education New Zealand has delivered baseline savings of $2.325 million in 2024/25 and $1.350 million in 2025/26. These figures include staffing reductions. I am advised that the Education Review Office delivered baseline savings of $2.456 million for Budget 2024. I am advised that the New Zealand Qualifications Authority has not been required to identify or deliver baseline savings or staffing reductions since 27 November 2023.
