NZTA is finalising the operating budgets for 2026/27 and funding levels for AI enablement have not yet been confirmed. For The Ministry of Transport, there will not be a standalone AI budget for 2026/27. From 1 July 2026, the Ministry will be disestablished and incorporated into Ministry of Cities, Environment, Regions and Transport (MCERT), and any AI-related expenditure will be determined and managed at an MCERT level. At this stage, MCERT’s AI investment profile has not yet been finalised.
