Question

  • What discussions, if any, has the Minister or officials had with foreign counterparts regarding Pacific Regionalism and the Review of the Regional Architecture, since 1 October 2025 by date and location?

Answered by

Rt Hon Winston Peters

List MP · NZ First · Minister of Foreign Affairs

Answer

We routinely engage with foreign counterparts on the topic of Pacific Regionalism, including the Review of Regional Architecture. Recent engagements include the meeting with Palau President Surangel Whipps during the visit to Palau from 20-21 January, and the meeting with the Pacific Islands Forum Secretary General Baron Waqa on 22 January in Fiji. Officials are in frequent discussion with foreign counterparts on the topic of Pacific Regionalism, including the Review of Regional Architecture. Officials engage specifically on the Review through the Forum Sub-Committee on the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent (last meeting 27 March in Suva) and the Review of Regional Architecture Working Group (last meetings 12 February and 6 March in Suva).
