What actions, if any, in the last 10 years has the Minister taken to eradicate invasive browser animals?

Answer
Since I became Minister in 2023, I have championed the refresh and launch of the “Predator Free 2050 Strategy (2026-2030): Innovate for a Predator Free NZ” and the associated Action Plan, and the resources to implement these. The Predator Free 2050 target species list includes possums which are an invasive browser and Predator Free 2050 programme includes investment into new and advanced eradication tools and methods. I have also approved the International Visitor and Conservation Levy investment for specific eradication projects including: • Preparatory work towards eradication of mammalian pests (including feral pigs) from Auckland Island in the Subantarctic Islands, • An Iwi, DOC and community project to eradicate wild goats in the Kaimai/Mamuku Range.
