Question

  • What artificial intelligence tools does the Ministry for Pacific Peoples currently use, if any, and how much does the Ministry project to spend on each of these tools in 2028/29?

Answered by

Hon Paul Goldsmith

List MP · National Party · Minister for Pacific Peoples

Answer

I am advised that the Ministry for Pacific Peoples (the Ministry) currently uses Microsoft Copilot as its approved generative artificial intelligence tool. The Ministry does not separately budget for or forecast artificial intelligence tools. Any costs associated with Copilot are met from within the Ministry’s existing ICT baseline and software licensing expenditure. As part of Budget 26, Cabinet has agreed to a programme of reform aimed at transforming the public service to streamline how it is organised, accelerate digital transformation, strengthen leadership and talent and improve efficiency and productivity. Specific decisions on how these reforms will be achieved by agencies have not yet been made. Ministers have asked Chief Executives to work through what this means for their organisations.
