How many people received Temporary Additional Support at the end of the most recent quarter, broken down by reason or reasons?
Answered by
Hon Louise Upston
Member for Taupō · National Party · Minister for Social Development and Employment
Answer
I refer the member to the attached tables: • Table One: The number of Temporary Additional Support (TAS) recipients as at end of March 2025, September 2025, and March 2026. • Table Two: The number of allowable costs for Temporary Additional Support (TAS) recipients as at the end of March 2025, September 2025 and March 2026 The Ministry of Social Development advises that it is unable to provide a more detailed breakdown than that supplied in the table. The table provided makes up for approximately 17 % of TAS recipients who qualify for TAS payment under allowable costs. Where a client is already receiving the maximum Accommodation Supplement (AS) and the maximum Disability Allowance (DA), they may still have essential costs that exceed their income. In these situations, the client may have an entitlement to TAS. As the initial application is made via AS and DA supplementary payment process, there are no additional cost codes attributed to the remainder of the costs covered by TAS. There are however, cost codes attributed to some accommodation payments and some health & disability costs when applied for directly under TAS, these do have costs codes attributed and can be collected by the data team. This is also my response to WPQ’s 20902, 20903, 20901, 20905 & 20904 (2026)
