Question

  • What proportion, if any, of the planned investment in infrastructure for the proposed University of Waikato medical school is already funded, and from which funding sources?

Answered by

Hon Penny Simmonds

Member for Invercargill · National Party · Minister for Tertiary Education

Answer

The Government has approved $82.85 million to support the establishment of the New Zealand Graduate School of Medicine, with the University of Waikato responsible for funding the remainder (approximately $152 million). Payment of the Government’s contribution is by instalments in accordance with a funding agreement between the Ministry of Health and the University of Waikato. The specifics of this agreement are commercially sensitive.
