Answer
NZTA advises me that each roadside inspection is assigned a unique identifier. During the period in question, there were 331 unique roadside inspections relating to this cohort. Across these inspections, a total of 620 vehicle units were inspected (noting that each tractor and trailer unit is recorded as a separate vehicle). The breakdown of inspections by number of vehicles is as follows: • 87 inspections involved a single vehicle • 199 inspections involved two vehicles (398 vehicle units) • 45 inspections involved three vehicles (135 vehicle units) This resulted in an average of 1.873 vehicle units per inspection. For clarity: - A single vehicle is typically a rigid heavy vehicle (which may include a tractor unit without a trailer attached). - Two vehicles typically refer to a tractor unit with one trailer attached. - Three vehicles typically refer to a tractor unit with two trailers attached.
