Question

  • What were the operating capacity, maximum capacity, and actual population, as at 28 February 2026, for each prison facility, broken down by remand convicted and remand accused prisoners?

Answered by

Hon Mark Mitchell

Member for Whangaparāoa · National Party · Minister of Corrections

Answer

I refer the member to the attached table which provides the operating capacity, maximum capacity, and actual population, as at 28 February 2026, for each prison facility. I am advised that Corrections does not record prison capacity by remand accused, remand convicted and sentenced status, as a prisoner’s status has no relation to the number of beds available at each site.
