Answer

In my capacity as the Prime Minister, I am the responsible minister for the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC). The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was a departmental agency hosted by DPMC until 25 September 2025. The Cyclone Recovery Chief Executive was a functional Chief Executive appointed under the Public Service Act 2020 in March 2023 and disestablished with effect from 1 July 2025. I am advised that electricity and natural gas is used to power or heat buildings leased or owned by DPMC. Petrol and liquefied petroleum gas is not used. The composition of sources of energy (electricity and natural gas) consumed to power or heat buildings for the financial years 2020/21 to 2024/25 is attached. I am advised that information relating to energy sources in buildings occupied by NEMA is not held by DPMC. I refer the member to the responses provided by the Minister for Emergency Management and Recovery for Written Parliamentary Questions 15105 (2026), 15106 (2026), 15107 (2026), 15115 (2026), 15118 (2026), 15119 (2026), 15434 (2026), 15441 (2026), 15447 (2026), 15456 (2026), 15457 (2026), 15458 (2026), 15761 (2026), 15778 (2026), 15784 (2026), 15788 (2026), 15796 (2026), and 15805 (2026). Details of the composition of sources of energy (electricity and natural gas) consumed to power or heat buildings leased or owned by DPMC, for the financial years 2020/21 to 2024/25 are set out in the following table. Financial Years Energy Source Percentage of kWh used 2019/20 Electricity 57% Natural Gas 43% 2020/21 Electricity 50% Natural Gas 50% 2021/22 Electricity 54% Natural Gas 46% 2022/23 Electricity 54% Natural Gas 46% 2023/24 Electricity 59% Natural Gas 41% 2024/25 Electricity 69% Natural Gas 31% Note: Government House also uses diesel for its emergency generators.
