Question

  • What was the policy direction shift that resulted in Kāinga Ora’s discontinuation of measures to track homes enabled through iwi and Māori partnerships and why was this policy shift made?

Answered by

Hon Chris Bishop

Member for Hutt South · National Party · Minister of Housing

Answer

Kainga Ora – Homes and Communities advises me that the discontinuation of the measure to track homes enabled through the Infrastructure Acceleration Fund (IAF) via iwi and Māori partnerships was a direct result of the change in direction set in the Kāinga Ora reset plan, and reduction to the Homes and Communities appropriation in FY25. It also no longer reflected Kāinga Ora core focus on delivering and managing social housing. From 1 July 2025, Kāinga Ora is no longer responsible for the administration of the IAF scheme; this function now sits with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
