Answer
Between 1 January 2023 and 31 December 2023, there was a net increase of 1,442 homes in Auckland. Over this period 1,687 newly built homes were delivered by Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities and Community Housing Providers (CHPs), in some cases replacing old houses that had passed their use-by-date and allowing a greater number of homes on the same site. Between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2024, there was a net increase of 1,925 homes in Auckland. Over this period 2,134 newly built homes were delivered by Kāinga Ora and CHPs, in some cases replacing old houses that had passed their use-by-date and allowing a greater number of homes on the same site. Between 1 January 2025 and 31 December 2025, there was a net increase of 479 homes in Auckland. Over this period 871 newly built homes were delivered by Kāinga Ora and CHPs, in some cases replacing old houses that had passed their use-by-date and allowing a greater number of homes on the same site. Data for 2026 is not yet available. Note: The newly built homes will mostly be higher than net increase as net increase includes homes removed by sales, lease expiries, and demolitions.
