Answer

I am aware of bycatch of a number of seals and dolphins in marine mammal sanctuaries in the 2024--25 fishing year. I understand that officials from the Department of Conservation and Fisheries New Zealand monitor bycatch closely. There are ongoing efforts to mitigate the impacts of fishing and officials work closely with the fishing industry to take action as deemed necessary to prevent population declines.
